Event Details

Advanced Critical Care Therapeutics is designed for pharmacists in all practice settings who are actively involved in the pharmacotherapeutic management of the most commonly encountered critical care diseases and is sponsored by the Nebraska Council for Continuing Pharmaceutical Education (NCCPE). NCCPE is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Credit for continuing pharmacy education (CPE) sessions must be earned by the participant. Participants can earn up to 28 contact hours of CPE credits for taking all 16 modules and the completion of a quiz and a case study for each CPE session attended.

The lectures provide in-depth advanced instruction concerning the pharmacotherapeutic management of the most commonly encountered critical care diseases. Emphasis is placed on the efficacy, safety, and comparative value of drug therapy in this highly specialized practice area. Didactic knowledge of physiology, pharmacology, and drug therapy management is applied to disease states specific to this population. Each module may be taken separately, or the entire course taken together.

This program is generally offered over a typical university semester, but can be expanded to be taken over a 36 month period or a six month period for under six modules.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology and clinical course of the major disease processes.
  2. Design and/or evaluate a specific pharmaceutical care plan for the management of major disease processes and provide alternative treatment measures based upon clinical and demographic characteristics.
  3. Discuss risk to benefit ratios of various therapeutic modalities.
  4. State desired endpoints of therapy and identify appropriate monitoring parameters.
  5. Identify potential drug-induced problems and adverse effects and their incidence, significance, and management.
  6. Develop an appreciation for the interrelationship of multiple medical problems in the pharmaceutical care of the patient.
